Previous week, Denmark’s NATURKRAFT formally opened to present the community a new space for suffering from the “physical and aesthetic powers of mother nature.” Intended by Thøgersen & Stouby and SLA, the new landmark at the western coastal town of Ringkøbing is a 50-acre exploratorium showcasing the value of environmental stewardship. Naturkraft — Danish for “Nature Power” — is composed of 3 linked zones that are individually guided by the themes of observation, participation and knowing. The very first “observation” zone is marked by a 600-meter-extended ring was that rises to a top of 12 meters and offers views of the Ringkøbing Fjord and the flat surrounding landscape. The second zone, which focuses on “participation,” includes an interior character and adventure park with playful installations and a 17-kilometer-extended “cross section” of the local biotopes in the course of the western Jutland of Denmark. Eight specifically created mother nature typologies are represented, from the sand dune and the heathland to the marsh and the carbon forest.

The concept of “understanding” guided the development of a 5,500-square-meter setting up for exhibitions. Located on the greatest point of the ring wall, the making capabilities a tent-like translucent facade built from light-weight ETFE to emphasize a regular connection to the outdoors. The interior character arena also contains “dissemination installations” for furthering conversations on the relevance of nature for people.
“Naturkraft is each about the visible mother nature powers that individuals expertise and use in nature, and about the deep-seated aesthetic sense of character that character phenomena awaken in us,” explained Stig L. Andersson, style director and founding spouse of SLA. “Nature is what allows us human beings to reside excellent and meaningful life. For both equally survival and dwelling. In Naturkraft we clearly show how the use of natural processes can form our upcoming cities and communities. Not by hitherto destroying existing character, but by understanding from nature and living with and not against it.”
