ZHA creates modular, low-carbon housing platform for Roatán Próspera

In collaboration with AKT II and Hilson Moran, Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled a new electronic architectural system for making sustainable modular homes in Roatán Próspera, a semi-autonomous Financial Advancement Hub set to split ground on the north bay of Honduras’ island of Roatán. The platform merges the nearby Caribbean architectural vernacular with electronic engineering procedures to minimize waste and carbon emissions even though maximizing energy performance. The luxurious modular homes will be made as a “kit of parts” for quick site assembly and will stick to a construction system aimed at benefiting the area economic climate.

Zaha Hadid Architects’ electronic platform will deliver Roatán Próspera’s 1st household units, which will reply to the local climate, terrain and atmosphere of the Caribbean and will combine the island’s vernacular custom of timber development. Neighborhood supplies and craftsmanship are emphasised in the building process, from the sourcing of sustainable timber from qualified forests on the Honduran mainland to the milling that will be performed regionally to further guidance the region’s financial system. The light-weight timber elements can be prefabricated offsite for swift assembly to reduce waste, embedded design electrical power and the development’s carbon footprint.

“The structure prioritizes sustainability and is integral to our vision for Roatán Próspera,” said Erick A. Brimen, CEO of Honduras Próspera LLC. “The island of Roatán is previously a renowned tourist destination. Roatán Próspera will fortify and diversify the area economic system even though generating homes defined by their natural environment.”

The modular houses have also been formulated with strength-conserving rules and will be self-shading and oriented towards prevailing sea breezes for natural cooling. The homes can also be integrated with photovoltaic arrays for web-zero functions. Shoppers, who are now capable to pre-invest in a property, can pretty much program their residences via the electronic architectural system, from customizing the spatial format of their residence to deciding on designed-in home furniture modules to healthy their life style tastes.
